the outdoor world of the sacramento region, 1975
a loved 1975 print of the outdoor world, field guide edition. this edition reflects deliberate intention with the design and format, it even has a ruler in centimeters inside the front cover and a ruler in inches inside the back cover for you.
i would love to share the preface with you:
'Our outdoor world is full of everyday fascinating plants and animals that we tend to overlook in out search for the rare and exotic. This guide was inspired by the author of the original book, Effie Yeaw, and has been assembled by a group of Sacramento residents with the hope that more students and adults will be encouraged to venture forth and learn more about our own region. The guide is not technical but written in a style that intends to share with others our delight in what we have learned about the most familiar plants, birds, animals, insects, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Thus, it is only a beginning and is offered as a preface to more advanced and thorough texts on natural history.
The format of the book, with pictures in the outer margins, is designed to help you locate different species quickly, The broad margins should also encourage you to include your own notes in the guide and truly make the book a tool to help you explore and enjoy the outdoor world of the Sacramento Region.'
